Just Married
Gay marriage has been debatable for many years. Some people have credible reasons for disagreeing with gay marriage, while others may have convincing evidence to support gay marriage. For instance, Andrew Sullivan and Anna Quindlen, authors of the essay, “Here Comes the Groom” and “Evan’s Two Moms respectively, support gay marriage. ... Whereas, Hadley Arkes, author of the essay, “The Closet Straight,” is against gay marriage and less convincing with his approaches. ... He explains the controversy that a gay lover had to face when his gay partner had passed away. The gay lover had to fight for his rights to live in his deceased lovers’ apartment. ... He suggests that there would be no such problem if the gay couple were married; furthermore, if gay marriage was legalized.
Further along the essay, he analyzes how legalizing gay marriage can resolve the complexity of what defines domestic partners. ... But they don’t need to have a sexual relationship or even closely mirror old-style marriage. ...
Throughout Sullivan’s essay, he implies mostly legal issues involved with gay couples. Like Sullivan, Quindlen also favors gay marriage; however, she is mainly concerned with family values among gay couples. ... None of the automatic rights, privileges, and responsibilities society attaches to a marriage contract. ... (411)
