Reaction Paper Jesus was born in Nazareth. No, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Was Jesus a carpenter? No, Jesus was the son of a carpenter. While watching, The Search for Jesus, constant contradiction and unknowns were reported. I felt that the documentary made Jesus into more of a real person, rather then the religious Messiah that the Christian faith believes he is. I’d like to discuss about four points that I felt were interesting in the report. From the beginning of Jesus’ life, many questions are raised. These questions, however, are not raised by the scholars, but the four different versions of the New Testament. Not only does each of the versions differ from one another, but each was written forty to one-hundred years after Jesus’ death. In Luke, Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem because there was no room at the Inn. In Matthew, Jesus was born at home in Nazareth. What is fact is, that in Jesus’ time, people were named after where they were born, and Jesus was called ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. This simple statement would infer that Jesus was born in Nazareth, despite what was written in Luke, however neither version can be proved. What I have learned, is that Jesus grew up in Nazareth, as a Jewish boy, in a time of great political tension.
