Hawthorne’s short story “Young Goodman Brown” which is an allegory of puritan religious beliefs. Once Goodman comes to terms with his reality and uses his reason instead of faith, he sees the falsity of his previous presumptions of his religion and its all-
encompassing goodness and he is devastated by this discovery.
Goodman Brown, in the very beginning of the story, says to his "love and Faith" that "This one night I must tarry away from thee.
