Some people say that there is no way to control your own life, that your life has been planned out for you ahead of time and there is nothing you can do to escape this fate. ... The quote "I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul," by William Henley states just the opposite of what seems to be proven in Oedipus Rex. ... Through the plot of the story of Oedipus, you can come to the conclusion that there is no way to escape your fate, so therefore I disagree with this quote. ... The theme is "do not deny or try to alter your fate. ... No matter what Oedipus does, he cant escape his fate. His actions dont alter the outcome of his fate, they just alter the way in which the predestination occurs. ... The gods upon seeing this, alter his life path but make sure his fate remains the same.
