Yom Kippur is a very important andsignificant holiday in the jewish religion. Even though, I myself am not very religious I pay respect to those whodid not eat for weeks at a time and lost their lives because ofstarvation. This holiday is not a joyfulone, but an extremely upsetting and sad one. We as people, not only jews take life and food for granted. Instead we should cherish every piece ofbread we eat and every sip of water we take because we just do not realize howlucky we are today. On this very melancholy holiday, Ihad tried to fast but could not succeed. It is extremely difficult and challenging. Waking up in the morning and not brushingyour teeth is not very pleasant, either is not chewing on a stick of gum. None of these actions are allowed. For years my parents have done it and therest of my family as well. I could haveonly done it for a few hours. It is sosurprising to me that people went without food for a long period of time, meanwhile I cannot be without food for more than a few hours. The circumstances that surround myideal peer pressure and choice to fast in a good way is my religion.
