The word “hate crime” has become a word that we as Americans have become very familiar with in the past few years. We see hate crimes taking place on the five o’ clock news every night and we read about them every morning in the newspaper. Webster’s dictionary gives the definition of a hate crime as, “A crime motivated by prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.” With so many hate crimes taking place, it disheartens me to think that Americans are falling right back into our racist heritage and becoming so prejudice that we are committing crimes against each other for the sole reason that a person is of a different social group. This hate comes from the very stressful and demanding society that we live in today. Many of the individuals who commit these hate crimes can attribute much of their aggression towards a very “tense” and “angry” United States. I propose that there be a measure taken that will justly put an end to these violent hate crimes that are taking place in America; a mandatory marijuana mandate.
