1) There are five of Porter’s competitive forces and some relate to the Nucor case study. The five competitive forces are industry competitors, new entrants, suppliers, customers and substitutes. There is always industry competition and this way one of the key characteristic behind the company’s success. They maintained the advantage over its rivals by keeping costs below those of its competitors. They found a way to lower their costs while broadening markets. They also used the supplier characteristic by bargaining power of suppliers. The company had a manufacturing segment known as minimills. These minimills supplied the company with melted down scrap metal that they used to produce their steel. As a result of these minimills they earned customers and started bargaining power of buyers.
