Alcohol Alcoholism is social problem that affects the lives of many. Alcoholism, as a disease, affects the individual, the family, and society as a whole. Families are torn apart, domestic violence occurs. Alcohol abuse can lead to further drug and substance dependence. On the individual, alcohol damages bodily processes and organs, and affects personality and temperament. An approach to treating this serious illness is group therapy and individual counseling. The severity of the problem and the willingness of the patient will determine the extent of treatment he or she will undergo. Depression, anxiety, and stress; these are all common unwanted personality traits that we experience at one time or another. However, the likelihood that we experience these traits is nearly doubled when alcohol is involved. Alcohol inhibits not only daily bodily functions but the mind as well. Alcoholism leads to times of withdrawal and low self esteem. Alcohol is central nervous system depressant, it intoxicates the body when drank a great deal. People sometimes abuse their way of drinking alcohol; alcohol abuse causes physical and mental damage causing drinkers to conduct a bad way of life. The effect of alcohol depends on how much a person drinks or how often they drink. Alcohol use induces people to behave in a way there are not use to, sometimes people become violent. Frequent use of alcohol has negative effects on the digestive and cardiovascular system; the liver is the organ of the digestive system that is most affected by alcohol consumption, liver cells start to get damaged and if continued use are destroyed. When destroyed cells turn into scar tissue that is known as cirrhosis, this conditions when its worse causes death.
