When he gets to the house though, he notices that something was odd about it. Later he will see that the house has a lot to do with the family. The house in “The Fall of the House of Usher” personifies the sadness of the family in the gloominess of the house, the separation of brother and sister in the zigzag fissure on the wall, and the dying of the family when the house actually falls.
The house personifies the Usher family because their sadness is shown in the gloominess of the house. When Roderick’s friend rides up, he notices the house is not a very happy place.
