A Midsummer Night¡¯s Dream ¡®A Midsummer Night¡¯s Dream¡¯ deals with some serious issues, while, at the same time, acts as a comedy. In Shakespearian times, this play was classified as a comedy. The play was written to entertain two very different groups of people. The upper and lower class citizens. Two different levels of theater had to be written to entertain them both. A serious part, would¡¯ve been the ridiculous ¡°man is better than woman¡± thought. This is expressed in Act One, Scene One, where Egeus expresses his plan for Hermia to marry someone, who she nor loves nor cares for. Her choices are whether to marry Demetrius or die, or take up nunnery. This expresses male superiority and parents¡¯ power over their children. An amusing part would also be where they actors are allocating parts for their play, in Act one, Scene 2, and Puck is thinking that he can play all the parts of the play. This is funny because we all think that it¡¯s quite impossible to achieve to play so many parts with just a single person. Another comical part, for both groups would have been the use of fairies and mystical magic (love-juice) in the play. The comedy of the play originates from these make-believe characters. Shakespeare used these characters to bring mischief to the story which caused many of the comical incidents that happened through the play. The most mischievous and comical spirit was Oberon¡¯s servant, Puck.
