Essay on “I have a dream” by Martin Luther King
We read the speech “I have a dream” by Martin Luther King; he delivered the speech to 250000 people on 28th August 1963. ... Martin Luther King was black and he thought that it was wrong to treat black people differently so he started a campaign for black rights and peace. ... This is showing the urgency of the situation and that Martin Luther King wants to do something about it right now. Because it is a speech I think that Martin Luther King is trying to get the people to feel that too by using the present tense. ... I think that people will like the speech better if it makes you feel happy. ... It says “we” to include the audience but in some bits it says I to make it sincere and personal like “I have a dream that my four little children…” it is showing that Martin Luther King is being affected by this too. ... It is like Martin Luther King is somewhere high up and looking down the rest of America and all the problems there. ... I think using mountains instead of skyscrapers works here because Martin Luther King is trying to say that what America is doing has always been wrong, if he used the word skyscrapers it would be like saying that not being racist is a very modern idea instead of it sounding like it should have been like this from the beginning of time which mountains seem to have been.
