It’s a cold morning today at the cabin but I love it. In fact it is what I live for. In these surroundings nothing can bother me, not even the hangover from last night’s drinking binge. Nothing can get in our way on a day like today. The sun is just rising over the mountains as I step out on the back porch. The air is so crisp and the smell of fresh coffee lingers in the air. It’s going to be one of the best riding days, I can feel it. It’s 6:30 in the morning and everyone is still sleeping, but the excitement filling my body is keeping me from sleeping. I have time to kill so I will go wax my board. The snow might get sticky towards the end of the day if it gets too warm. I want to be able to slide real well. All right, 7:30 now, time for everyone to wake up if we want to get fresh tracks. Mary-Sarah has to be in Denver for a dentist appointment today so she will drop Marty, Caleb and me in Breckenridge. Both Marty and Caleb fell asleep in the back of the tiny pick-up truck, as I stayed awake in the passenger seat serving as Mary-Sarah’s personal navigator. She can get quite confused when reading directions, so it is important that I stay awake. The first part of the trip is on a dirt road that isn’t very well maintained and she is flying through. The back of the truck is fish tailing on every turn. I don’t complain because I love it. I’m an adrenaline junkie and Mary-Sarah knows that too, which makes me think she might be driving that way on purpose to keep me entertained. Anyhow, it’s working. The drive there is amazingly impressive. On the way we passed many herds of buffalos. I could feel the freezing wind blow through their fur but they are so adapt that they don’t even bulged to the cold. The amazing cloud reaching white peaks of the Rocky Mountains are taking over the skies around us. The spectacular scenery is an inspiration to life. Finally, 8:30 A.M., we are here. The village smells like homemade breakfast and the atmosphere is relax and joyous. Mary-Sarah is in a hurry so she drops us in the middle of town and asks us again if we are sure about what we are doing; I mean yes it is stupid to get dropped off in the middle of the Rockies with nowhere to sleep, a low budget and no ride back to the city (Denver), but who in their right state of mind could ever pass a day of riding like the one we are about to live, not me.
