Safety is the first concern in designing fitness programs for teens. There is evidence that resistance training helps prevent injuries among adolescent athletes and further, stronger athletes are less susceptible to specific types of injury. Resistance training programs for teens should not focus on maximized weight lifting. Proper techniques must be stressed, as most training injuries are related to improper techniques. Another concern regarding teen fitness is that teens may be subject to types of growth cartilage injuries (Epiphyseal plates). Damage to the growth cartilage may cause pain and also increase the chance of separation between the tendon and bone. As a personal trainer one of your goals is to help the young athletes both psychologically and physically participate in resistance exercise training programs.
