Research paper on Terrorism Terrorism has been around as early as the days of ancient Egypt. It has been the sole cause of the destruction of many empires. People have been assassinating leaders of their countries to try to overthrow their form of government, and for the past one hundred and twenty years terrorists have had a popular weapon of mass destruction, bombs. In April 1995 the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed, which killed 168 people and injured more than 500 others (Terrorism in the United States). It was considered one of the worst bombings in the history of the United States. Many political figures in the past were assassinated: King Tut in Egypt, who was poisoned and hit in the back of the head by a political rival. The members of the Roman Senate assassinated Caesar Alexander of Russia in 1881, who were considered a terrorist group that wanted to overthrow the Russian government. John Wilkes Booth, who was an angry southerner of the work that president Lincoln was doing, assassinated him because of the way the Civil War turned out; and Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated John F. Kennedy. Terrorism can go back to the actions taken during the French revolution. One example is an event that took place when revolutionaries were fed up and seized power from the French monarchial government. This time became known as The Reign of Terror (McKay). It is not really certain as to when terrorism began. We, as a nation might view the actions of a certain individuals of a country to be terrorism, but to them, they view it as a demonstration of their belief. They might just be trying to carry out their military duties, but in our eyes, we may consider it to be terrorism. Many terrorist have been using airlines to threaten the security of American citizens because on a plane, there is no where to run. Terrorism is not just a domestic problem; it is an international problem. It is a word that strikes fear in to many people as it is used.
