‘Kurt and Courtney’ is a documentary by Nick Broomfield. It is about the life and death of Kurt Cobain but largely focuses on Courtney Love and if she played a role in the suicide of Kurt Cobain, her late husband. The film talks about Kurt being an icon and his miss-use of drugs. But the point of the film seems to be an investigation into his so-called suicide. Broomfield is seen travelling across the US interviewing family and friends of Kurt and Courtney while he also seems to be pursuing Courtney Love. ...
The camera work and point of view is an important factor in ‘Kurt and Courtney’, as in a documentary it would be difficult for the director to create an effective mise-en-scene as this is something that usually needs to be set up, which can be difficult in the filming conditions of a documentary. Documentaries also often use original news footage or other sources of live footage, so they have to make the most out of the scenes that they film themselves. Although lighting is often used to create different effects and lighting is occasionally used in Kurt and Courtney to create a mysterious atmosphere, but this is also something that can be difficult to do in documentaries.
