Tony Zhou Personal Response Entry #2 Method: Ideology The book Nineteen Eighty-Four tells a story of future. The author created a future world that everything seemed good, but actually is the opposite. The ideology of the book is against dictatorship. In the story, Big Brother who is the dictator basically controls everything. No one is allowed to say anything against him. In the story, Big Brother, who is the dictator, seems to be the ¡°hero.¡± Even his posters are everywhere. Whereas, Goldstein, who suggested freedom of speed, and equal rights were emphasized as the bad guy, he appeared in the Two Minutes Hate every time. This was an irony made by the author by purpose. He wanted to show that what is like to have no freedom, and to make the readers value freedom and say NO to dictatorship.
