Two murders have been committed. Matthew Poncelot, the main character in the movie Dead Man Walking has been convicted of killing Walter Delacroix and Hope Percy. Although there were two people at the scene, Mathew Poncelot and Carl Vitello, only one is serving time on death row; Vitello had the money to get expensive lawyers to fight for him. While serving on death row, Matthew writes a letter to Sister Helen Prejean, who eventually comes to help him. Sister has never done this kind of thing, and comes to find out she has gotten herself into a real pickle. Throughout the movie Sister gets pulled back and forth between the parents and Matthew for whose side she should be on. Sister knows there is a small chance Matthew will be let off death row, so she becomes his spiritual leader into redemption. In the end, Matthew finally admits to the fact he did kill Walter so he can at least have some pride while going into his death. Matthew is executed, but the parents still have sorrow for their children’s death. Matthew has a case where we know that he did it, so many people would say, execute him.
