Thirty-six years ago I sat in a class room, very similar to this one. I was the new kid in school, a high school freshman who had changed schools half way through the year. There I sat, Erkle, Horshack and Screech all rolled into one. I don’t remember what the class was, what period it was or who taught it. I do remember the only person who walked up to me and said, “Hi, my name is Lynda, what do you think of our school?” Had I been able to say anything, I’m sure it would have confirmed everything the locals were thinking about me. This one person saved my life, changed my personal hell into a place I could survive after all. I had no choice, some one finally talked to me, and it didn’t involve a threat or promise that ended with me trying to get out of a locker or a garbage can. I married her.
