Spending time with kids apparently makes a difference to them, as far as I knew, I wasn’t signing up to impact a child’s life. When I agreed to take a job at Valley Forge Military Academy’s summer camp, as a counselor to young boys with behavioral problems, I admit that I thought to myself, “Wow, a job where they pay me an inordinate amount of money to hang out with my best friends all summer and live away from home.” This job would be effortless money. I never knew that in one summer, I would influence a child’s life; and they in tern would influence mine. The boys in this camp usually came from a situation at home, where not much attention was paid to them. This lack of attention was usually the logic behind their lack of discipline. During camp, almost each boy did one outrageous action, often a ploy for attention. On occasion I found myself empathizing with their crazy tactics, as I too love to be center stage.
