(i) Name two other types of multivibrator circuits. • Schmitt trigger • Monostable Multivibrator (ii) How might the astable multivibrator be made using logic gate chips? Draw the circuit and lable it. The astable multivibrator could be made using the nand gate chip. The two single-input NANDs. Output B is the input to A and if at switch-on it is high output A and so also the astable output Vo will be low. Since input B must be low (if its output is high) C will start to change up through R. When the right side of C is positive enough i.e high, output B begins to go low, driving input A low and making Vo high. As a result the voltage on the right side (as well as the left) of C rises suddenly (due to the change on it not having time to change). The resulting positive feedback reinforces the direction input B was going confirms the high state of Vo. Schmitt Trigger: Sometimes an input signal to a digital circuit doesn't directly fit the description of a digital signal.
