Introduction Definitions: Analysis: To examine something very careful, and divide into parts to see what it is made up of or to what it actually is. DNA: Deoxyribonucleic acid- the molecules carrying the body’s genetic information. DNA is a double- standard in the shape of a double helix. Each human being contains 1 trillion DNA cells. Identification: The process of trying to recognize who or what somebody or something is. E.g. the identification of a criminal by their fingerprints. Victim: A person who suffers because of the action of others or because of bad luck, illness etc. DNA Analysis: Victim Identification The process of using deoxyribonucleic acid to examine a person or thing to find out who they are and why and how (they became in the state that they were) Application to Forensic Science • DNA finger prints been around for many years • Recently in the last 10- 15 years, the use of DNA profiling and DNA typing have been applied by forensic scientist to identify one.
