In “Ibsen’s Unlovely Creed” by Clement Scott he talks about a new generation of women that are coming out. He says, “this is the ideal woman of a new creed” (Scott 1062). His main claim is that Nora is being selfish. He says, “not the model of unselfishness and charity but a mass of aggregate conceit and self-sufficiency, who leaves her home and deserts her children because she has herself to look after” (Scott 1062). Nora may be being selfish but she has to be if she wants to find herself. Throughout the play she says certain things that refer to her wanting to break free from Torvald. Nora wants to become a new and different person. She wants to feel like a man, form her own opinions and stop being Torvald’s little lark. She’s changed her perspective and is now looking for what she wants out of life. Nora wants to wants to feel more like a man, and like she did when she was working. In order to pay back her loan, she has found a way to make money by doing some copying.
