Biblical Basis of Government There are several reasons for God¡¯s allowance of governments. God has placed governments over man to help us live peaceful and pleasing lives. God says that he appoints authority over us so that we can live in tranquility and in godliness. God wants us to be happy and he knows that we need some form of tangible authority over us so that we will be more likely to act respectably. Without some form of government mankind would simply get out of control and God realizes that because we have sinned we can no longer be in control of our own lives so he appoints governments over us. Romans 13:1-2 says,¡± Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities.
