The Youngers, being an African American family in the late 1500's, experienced trails and turbulances in the novel "Raisin in the Sun". Each member of the Younger family have a certain goal they want to accomplish, dreams that don't nessesarily accomedate with other people's feelings. Especially with the political and social issues of our world 40 years ago. African Americans's ambitions were cut short from the ideals of society because of their place in "the land of the free". Walter Younger for example, yearned to establish a liquor store to help the family financially. He created a full proof plan (with the assistance of Mama's money which she had recived from his husbands life insurance) to build a store and make a large profit out of it.
