Religion involves the spirit and the mind of believers. In the midst of the strongest vision and faith, believers often confound themselves and each other by attempting to systematize their religion. Knowing that one's soul receives sustenance from a spiritual source is the initial and most compelling reason for people having a religion. From that point, many people add on various other requirements: 1. a system for gaining material benefits from the Supreme Being in exchange for prayer or ritual; 2. a philosophical system of justification or salvation; 3. a rational system of getting from this life to eternal life; 4. a scientific system to describe the structure and interaction of their souls and the Supreme Being; 5. a "rational" system for avoiding personal responsibility for their actions; 6.
