Cook Art 1030/Fall Semester II Style The Annunciation is representational piece of art and all the subjects in the painting are clearly depicted. The painting of the Annunciation as related to the style of painting that was done during the reformation period of the early renaissance in 1520. During this time the focus was slowly shifting from religious back to humanism. In the painting itself there are numerous symbols to explain the significance of the event shown in the painting. Andrea Pevitali was one of several artists from the town of Bergamo who traveled to Venice to complete their training. He was influenced by a pastoral setting of Bellini’s successor, Giorgone. III Function The function that the artist was concerned with was that of spiritual substance. The painting is dealing with subjects of a religious nature. You can see this in the representation of the Holy Spirit by a dove and the angel Gabriel that gave Mary the lily.
