On April 16, 1963 Martin Luther King wrote a letter from his jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama to a hand full of fellow clergymen explaining the injustice in the town. In his letter he writes about what unjust laws are, how to hold a nonviolent campaign, while referring to many religious figures so that his letter shows something to the clergymen.
In the third paragraph of Martin Luther King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail, he states “I am in Birmingham because injustice is here”. One could easily reason why there is injustice, just from basic history of the black community and their struggle for freedom. Further understanding of this quote could come from in depth research of literature or film footage, a fine example being the movie Mississippi Burning. ... Whether it is the separate water fountains, the black side of the restaurant, the abduction and beating of black citizens or the burning of a black mans farm and belongings, the meaning behind Luther’s quote is asserted strongly.
