Don Juan in Hell
On 11/2/03 I attended the 7:30pm function of Don Juan in Hell by George Bernard Shaw in the Theatre Too!
In general terms I was not too pleased with this play. In the first place, I was quite disappointed with the performance space itself. The space was very small, in fact I later found out that it seats 72 people only; the seats are simply chairs that can be arranged in different ways. Also, room's ceiling was a few cm above me which gave me a little bit of a claustrophobic sensation. Leaving this aside, not until I'm given the program do I realize that the play is to be presented as a concert reading. What a disappointment when I saw the first actor coming onto the stage with a binder in his hand!! Although the actors were reading they did a fine job in their acting. The script, however, I'm ashamed to say that made me nod in various scenes. Some of the dialogues kept going over and over the same point that had already been made, in fact Don Juan is made fun of by other characters because of his rambling..
