In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison it has definite representation of a Bildungsroman novel. There are many reasons why this is true. There is definitely character development of a few specific people in the novel. The two main characters that have shown substantial development throughout the novel are Sethe, and Paul D. Both of these characters have been through something during the novel and have overcome a fear or thought that has haunted them for many years which strengthens the development of their character throughout the novel. These two characters are the best representation when talking about a novel of development. In the novel Sethe whom is one of the main characters is a slave on a farm called Sweet Home. Sweet Home however is anything but sweet. The slaves there are treated very badly, especially by the one that they call schoolteacher. He is a very evil person who makes their lives a living hell...
