The period of the 1920s in America were referred to as the "roaring twenties" for various reasons. The term roaring can be related to a lion, showing pride, the pride can refer to the pride shown by the American population in this time. And being at the top of the successful countries, as is the lion, being the "king of the jungle". The term roaring can also refer to the affluence and prosperity of people and their willingness to explore and diverse into different aspects of the American society. However as with the lion this term could also be linked to a more dangerous side of the American society, this would include the rise in crime and gang warfare that crossed the states with violence and this presence of criminal behaviour was so strong that the term roaring can show that it was in full boom. AS is seen with these examples nearly any part of America In the 1920s could be linked to the term roaring and these examples shall feature in my essay, which will analyse the 1920s in America.
Firstly the fact that the 1920s are described as roaring, this is because if you look at the previous decade, with ww1 ending and thousands of troops dead, and the decade after that consisted of the great depression and the wall street crash we can see that the roaring 20s was a decade of great contrast compared to the other two decades. The roaring 20s however consisted of great national pride and everyone had prospered during this decade and overall the roaring 20s was much more optimistic.
After the war there ad been great advances in technology, which were gained, from the 1st world war. America also had advantages compared to other countries in the world as they had gained a lot of money from other countries after the war had ended, they also did not enter the war until 1917 so it was easier for the country to rebuild any damage that was caused whereas countries in Europe had to spend all there money on rebuilding the massive damage caused during the war...
