The media plays a very important role in today's politics. The media provides people with information that they need to be able to choose between political candidates. News reporters and writers try to provide information to people without expressing bias views, but a reader or listener can easily determine if the news being reported is more liberal or conservative. The context of the article such as the writers tone, opinions towards the different candidates, and sources of information give the readers or listeners an idea toward the writer or reporters political stance. In the article that will be discussed the writer Walter Shapiro is clearly conservative. The writer showed favoritism towards traditional values and beliefs, showing criticism towards democratic candidates. The article describes the first political debate with major emphasis on Gen. Wesley Clark. The following paragraphs will provide information supporting the idea of the articles conservatism by explaining the writer's criticism of Clark's political stance, the criticism of Clark's knowledge of liberal issues, and the praise of republican candidate Howard dean.
