Negro League is a term that refers to organized baseball played by blacks in the United States during the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, when blacks were barred from major league and minor league baseball.1 The Negro League baseball provided popular entertainment in cities in the Eastern, Southern, and Midwestern states by showcasing some of the most talented players in baseball history. They did this by playing an exciting brand of baseball. The Negro League also helped to break the color line in Major League Baseball and helped integrate blacks into major league teams but also helped in dismantling the Negro League.
Americans began playing baseball on informal teams using their own rules, in the early 1800's. By the time the mid 1800's had arrived baseball rules and teams had became more formal. Baseball had also become known as America's national pastime.
African Americans had also been playing baseball throughout the 1800's. By the mid 1800's and soon after the civil war, blacks began to form teams because whites didn't exactly agree with blacks playing sports with them on the same field. This was reflecting America's society in general because whites thought that this made them somewhat equal...
