Cadillac Desert: The Changing Australia
This episode of Cadillac Desert was about the changes in Australian ecology as the island slowly moves north towards Asia. I found that the information in this video was extremely interesting and I was able to see all the effects that a changing climate has on an ecosystem. The only problem I encounter with this video is the narrator jumps back and forth between topics causing the sense of direction to be lost. Nevertheless, this video gave me very in depth information about the following: Eucalyptus trees, mutualism, specific genus information, and ecosystem transformations due to climate changes.
This video does what every well produced informative film should, in the beginning the narrator gives some background information about Australia and how the ecosystem existed when the island was closer to Antarctica. This information helps me understand exactly what was and now is in Australia. For example, the narrator spent a great amount of time covering how Bowerbirds and other animals such as Tree Kangaroos, Ringtail Possums, and Blossom Bats help in the pollenazation of flowers and trees within the habitat. I also like how the narrator explains how the forests dry out and that the Eucalyptus species of tree emerges. I'm glad the narrator presents this information first because it is the Eucalyptus that is the foundation for the new, drier ecosystem that surfaces.
This video also provides extensive information about certain animals that are not covered in class and may be helpful on practicals and tests...
