The End of the Cold War: Who is Responsible?
The Cold War ended in the 1980's. This was the time when President Ronald Reagan led the United States and Mikhail Gorbachev led the USSR. The population of each country feels that their respective leader was the one that brought the end to the Cold War, but how can this be true? This has led to a major controversy between two of the largest nations in the world.
President Reagan was a unique president. When he took office he initiated a large military buildup as a preventative counter measure to the Soviet threat. Another preventative measure taken by the United States was to limit the amount of military technology that made its way into the hands of the Russians. This even included not giving away security secrets to the allies of the US for fear they would in turn hand those secrets to the Russians.
