Hume: Miracles
People often use the word miracle light heartedly. Someone might say, "It's a miracle I won the lottery." Is this really a act of god?" This brings the question to my mind: do miracles really exist? According to the philosopher, David Hume, a miracle is a violation of the laws of nature by God's power. Hume seems to be very skeptical about the whole idea of miracles. He believes that a miracle is highly unlikely since there is no proof of one happening before. He basically says that miracles aren't impossible, since God can override the laws of nature. Christians believe that God tells the prophets to perform miracles, therefore if a miracle would happen it would prove the existence of God and prove that God is spoken for.
