Influenced by naturalism,Sister Carrie typically reflects Dreiser's view of nature and man in the social environment of his time,although he chooses to give his heroine a certain degree of dignity in face of nature.Naturalism finds its full expression in Dreiser's Sister Carrie,Dreiser's writing revealed a Godless world in which man is thrown upon himself to keep alive as best he can against the overwhelming odds of the cold ,indifferent environment.It is in such a world that Carrie Meeber finds herself.Dreiser is regarded as a naturalistic writer,naturalism focuses on the scientific analysis of character,the pessimistic human life,and the truthfulness and exactness of writing.The influence can be seen in Sister Carrie ,the uses of scientific method to analyse the character Carrie Meeber,the uses of the novelist's own experience as writing material for Sister Carrie,and Sister Carrie reflects Dreiser's naturalistic view of nature and man,but he dose not make man a total defeat ,we can both find the proofs in Sister Carrie itself and in other critics'remarks.I nfluenced by naturalism,Sister Carrie typically Dreiser's pessimistic view of life as well as his naturalistic treatment of literary subjects,although he chooses to let Carrie Meeber face her harsh world with some dignity.We can regard Dreiser as a naturalistic writer in Dreiser's own remarks and form some other critics'remarks we know he is anaturalistic writer.Besides,we also can find the reflection in his writings ,especially his masterpiece Sister Carrie.The reflection of naturalistic influence in Dreiser's Sister Carrie can be seen fron the following points: firstly,nature as an indifferent force acting on the lives of human beings;secondly,the force of heredity and environment as the affect and afflict the individual lives;thirdly,an indifferent and deterministic universe acting on the individual lives ;Dreiser's emphasis is on the influences of an in different and deterministic world which act on the heroin Sister Carrie.At the same time ,Sister Carrie reflects Dreiser's naturalistic view of the nature and the human beings fron the following three aspects:first of all,the examples form the book Sister Carrie itself ;and then the remarks of the anthor himself ;the last pointis from the remarks of the other critics ...
