The Hemingway Code is a way of life for a hero, that some abide by and think it is the
only way of living. Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea followed the code by showing all
the principals of the code. Every one should live by Hemingway's code so they could live in a
world of violence, disorder, and misery. If the code is followed it should have to exemplify
the principals of honor, courage and endurance which Santiago showed through out the
journey of his fishing. The man who exhibits these traits will not be defeated and will achieve
dignity.
Santiago showed honor through out his journey at sea. He followed the only honorable course of action when he killed the fish. In the text it is written and said by Santiago himself "It was the only way to kill him,"(Hemingway 70). Santiago said this because he wanted to respect the fish until the end and if harpooning it was the only way for him to kill him and sell him to survive then that is the most honor he could show. Santiago also honored the fact that killing was a sin which really shows his ethics...
