A good novel does more than just tell a good story. The gathering (Isobelle Carmody, 1993) is a good novel that has a compelling storyline. The novel tells a good story and much more. It develops important, complex characters, themes and has a powerful resolution, which are well developed throughout the book.
By the strength of his character, Nathaniel is able to bring his friends together to form the chain and beat the evil powers. Nathaniel is a teenage boy who has only one parent. He is constantly on the road, moving because of his mother and her past. His character is well developed by Isobelle Carmody with very complex details shown mainly through memories and dreams. Towards the end of the book The Gathering (Isobelle Carmody, 1993), Nathaniel unites the chain and overwhelms the evil powers. (Pg 240 264)
Seth being a deceptive character disguises his dangerous weakness through his good looks...
