Picture books are an effective Literal medium. A reason for thinking this is, in picture books the words may be easy reading but they may have a different meaning to different audiences, kids and adults alike. They also mean different things to people with different cultural backgrounds and different beliefs. In the book The Rabbits (Marsden and Tan, 1998), where the rabbits are invading Australia, it doesn't mean much to most Australians because Europeans invaded and conquered the Aborigines, whereas it would mean much to the Aborigines because they lost practically all the land that they had owned and looked after for a long time and ever since Europeans have come here the land quality has decreased.

The feeling of a picture book is a vital part. The way felling is symbolised in picture books by the words, colours and the pictures. If there's a sentence that says 'and they lived happily ever after' you would say that book had a feeling, which is good. Also the pictures show feeling too...
