Intelligence is a subject that is highly volatile and controversial. Many people have many different opinions and ideas of what intelligence is, but to date none can be proven to be the final answer. "g stands for the general factor in human intelligence" (Intelligence. Deary, Ian J. pg 10). g's definition, though g itself is not fully understood, has come to include many different skills and concepts. The idea that g is involved with seemingly simple and commonplace activities that are separate from school and academia is contrary to Sternberg's statement that "...General intelligence is not even general, but rather applies largely to academic kids of tasks." Sternberg's statement is the antithesis of the generally accepted concept of 'g', in that research through studies has shown high correlations between g and many non-academic things, for example the predicative value of g and it's correlation to job performance...
