In Australia sport is a huge part of our society and way of living. Sports men and women are seen as famous and many people see athletes as role models. Athletes are put under a lot of pressure to perform to the best of their ability and therefore many athletes turn to performance enhancing drugs to fulfil expectations from the public and themselves. Using performance-enhancing drugs is seen as cheating in all sports not just in Australia but all round the world. The use of some specific drugs in triathlons can help the athlete to perform better and makes it unfair to other athletes. Different drugs can affect the body and performance of an athlete in many different ways. Drugs can increase the amount of oxygen entering the body during competition, build strength and mass of muscle and bones. Drugs can mask pain and the use of other drugs and can also stimulate the body. An increase in muscular strength can lead to the athlete having more power and endurance than an athlete not on drugs.
