Just as every human is unique, every teacher has a unique style of teaching. So when contemplating a philosophy of education, I searched for common but essential elements found in all great teachers. What came to mind were passion and perspective. What follows is the essence of what my experiences as a teacher has shown me and what I bring with me to every situation.
PASSION AND PERSPECTIVE
The focus isn't on the people I come in contact with nor is the focus on me. The focus is on us. Similar to the global community, a school is a community where everyone is connected and affected by what happens within the community. Administrators provide perspective and guidance through policies and mission statements and have the power to positively affect every individual in the school community; from the custodians to the parents to the first year teacher to the 1st grader whose parents are newly divorced.
Teachers are in a position to positively affect the school community every single day, every single class. "Us" is affected by "us"...
