This essay will compare and contrast the different views on wealth and poverty from Christianity and Buddhism. The first religion I will look at will be Christianity. Followers of Christianity can turn to the Bible for guidance on the issue of wealth and poverty. The Bible contains teachings by Jesus and can show Christians the correct path to take. The Old and New Testaments contain guidance on the issue. In the Old Testament there are the Ten Commandments (see Appendix II), one of which is 'you shall not covet your neighbour's house. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour' (Exodus 20:17). Some Christians believe that we are breaking the fourth commandment in the United Kingdom. It is 'remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God...
