The Soul has been a great controversy since the dawn of civilisation. Its existence is questioned, its relation with body is put under investigation and there are numerous other related issues that have been discussed. Generally the soul has been conceived as the very essence of a thing and not just an aspect or part of it. A definition of the soul would be that it's a physical or spiritual principle in general shared by or embodied in individual human beings. However, Aristotle and Plato both had very different views on their idea of what the soul was and it's relationship with the body.
For Plato, the soul was a spiritual substance joined with a physical body. Plato's theory regarding the soul was that it was divided into three separate components, reason, will and appetite, or otherwise known as reason, emotion and desire. Plato almost thought there was a hierarchy, with reason being the most superior over the other two. He said this was plausible because one can identify the soul because they sometimes clash with each other. So for example, a person may crave or have an appetite for something, yet they resist it through willpower...
