Whether one drives a trendy SUV or an electric car, society today puts a great deal of focus on the automobiles it owns. When deciding what vehicle to buy, often the choice between Japanese and American-made vehicles is an important consideration. When he or she is looking for a new car, the average buyer probably looks first at overall appearance, then at reliability, efficiency, and safety. The vehicles made by Japanese companies dominate the American-made vehicles in every one of these categories. American companies are losing more and more business to the Japanese competitors for these reasons. American companies have lost so much of their market to the Japanese that many of them actually lose money on passenger cars (Gelser). For the American consumer a Japanese vehicle is a much better choice than an American automobile.
