To interpret and understand why characters in the Mahabharata chose to perform adharmic acts, the situations surrounding him must first be understood. There are two families, Pandavas and Kauravas, in the dynasty who are rivals of each other. They are sons of Pandu and Dhritarashtra, respectively. The first born of the Kauravas, Duryodhana, develops an intense hostility against the Pandava brothers due to the unfeasible characteristics that they hold. In order to take over the throne, Duryodhana comes up with a plot to murder the king, his cousin King Yudhisthira. Furthermore he wants Draupadi, his wife and all the cousins to be dead by means of burning them alive in a lac-house. The twist comes when the Pandus become aware of his cruel intent, and escape the fire. But Duryodhana is not willing to give up so easy. Taking the advice of his uncle Sakuni, he challenges Yudhisthira to a game of dice. Though Yudhisthira is hesitant because of Sakuni's reputation of dishonesty, he must to fulfill his duty of being a Kshatriya...
