Introduction
What can be learned from criminals? The last fifty years has seen an abundance of scientific interest on the many pathways a person takes in becoming a criminal. The logic behind this research is that if we can learn more about what creates a criminal, we could put forth measures that decrease the chances an individual will follow such pathways. Plenty has been discovered about the different factors that make a person turn to crime. Many precursors of these factors are evident as early as childhood.
We know ways to decrease the chances of both individual and groups of children becoming criminals. Now, we must assign this duty to the appropriate candidate. Parents are obvious candidates for the job; they spend the most time with their kids and should already be authority figures in their own homes. Though, neither the government nor the community have the right to regulate how others raise their children.
