In this classical novel called A Dream of Red Mansions written by Tsao Hsueh-Chin; a tragedy of love, jealousy, and different human qualities is about to begin. Though Chia Pao-Yu is the main character of the story, the essay will mainly focus on the two female characters, Lin Tai-Yu and Hsueh Pao-Chai. It is rather interesting to see that there are so many differences in personalities and characters between the two women despite the fact that they are blood related. Lin Tai-Yu, the grand daughter of Lady Dowager, comes to the Red Mansion after the death of her mother while Pao-Chai simply comes for a visit at the mansion with her mother. They all may come from different places, but the two women at the end, however, are trying to achieve the same goal, to be picked by Lady Dowager as Pao-Yu's wife. This then creates a love triangle between the three cousins in which one of the two women will suffer in conclusion. Tsao Hsueh-Chin will illustrate how Pao Chai and Tai-Yu's temperaments may affect their destinies at the end.
There is no doubt that Pao-Chai and Tai-Yu are both lovely and charming ladies in their own ways. The author, however, often describes Tai-Yu as a rather gentle and charming person; though, she is also a super sensitive young woman in comparison to Pao Chai. Since Tai-Yu is a bright young lady who can pick up and understand little things quickly, she is often too involved in her own world, over analyzing situations and people too much that she ends up stressing from her own created anxiety and jealousy...
