In 1922, Henry Ford discussing his automobile industry said, "We have found in buying materials that it is not worth while to buy for other than immediate needs... That would save a great deal of money, for it would give a very rapid turnover and thus decrease the amount of money tied up in materials." Henry Ford was clearly talking about Just-In-Time manufacturing. Just-in-time manufacturing is a strategy for inventory management in which raw materials and components are delivered from the vendor or supplier immediately before they are needed in the manufacturing process. The automobile industry has been using JIT manufacturing since its beginning. Ford has long been known for using just-in-time.
