Creativity may be discouraged in schools that see it as threatening the norm or it may not be even taken into account. Others ignore the definition of creativity as being a novel high quality work that is appropriate. The school views creativity has something nontraditional or possibly threatening if it challenges their values, beliefs, or way of doing things.
Personally, my high school disregarded my art classes. Certain teachers saw art as being unimportant compared to the other aspects of academics such as english, science, math, etc. Art is full of creativity and allows students to express themselves uniquely, also educating the students in art history. I believe students saw it as a way out of other more difficult classes. Those students thought we sat and finger painted all day long. Those individuals were highly disillusioned. The encouragement of creative thinking in art class enabled us to bring that to other subjects and allowed us to take risks, ask questions, and formulate our own ideas on different subjects...
